Global Youth Conference @GYouthC - Recap

Generation Y are called the digital natives as they grow up with Internet and Information and Communications Technology (ICT). No doubt, such vigorous participation in social and media networking across the virtual space has impacted their ways of thinking, behaving, communicating, learning, and working. The Global Youth Conference theme, “Equipping Gen-Y Leaders for Tomorrow”, a collaboration  between the Student Affairs and Development Division of the Ministry of Higher Education and Taylor’s University, brought together talented young minds from diverse backgrounds and cultures for leadership development and training at the University’s Lakeside Campus. Through a series of forums, talks and dialogues with the industrial gatekeepers and leaders, such as Andrew Lau, Head of Leaderonomics Campus; Patrick Wee, Chief Executive Officer of Group MAD; Joel Neoh Eu-Jin, Vice President and General Manager for Groupon offices in South East Asia and India and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Groupon Malaysia and Groupon Taiwan; Jolene Sim and Tan Su Zhen, Directors of Mainstream Online Buzz; Sajith Sivanandan, Country Head of Google Malaysia; Dr Hartini Zainudin, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Siti Sapura Husin and Founder of Yayasan Chow Kit; and Datin Sharifah Shawati, Chief Executive Officer of Adamaya Consultancy and Services, participants were exposed to pertinent skills and aptitudes in leadership, community service and volunteerism, the dynamics of personal image, intercultural communication and entrepreneurship essential for global marketplace and sustainability during this two-day event. The conference also provided them a unique opportunity for establishing and fostering intercultural and cross-cultural understanding through interaction with students from diverse cultures and ethnicities. Participants commented that this global networking and knowledge sharing platform have broadened their mindset and perspective about communication, cultures, leadership, and future vision.
